The FAA has called for the immediate inspection of certain areas of the external skin of all 737 – 300, -400 and -500 series aircraft. This inspection was prompted by the hole that opened up in the skin of a Southwest Airlines aircraft earlier this month causing a rapid decompression in the aircraft’s cabin. Many airlines use these older model 737 aircraft and the FAA has determined that possible cracking in the skin of these planes presents an unsafe condition that requires immediate attention.
